4 hours of tasting, discussion, and hands-on instruction From smooth, crisp lagers to a spectrum of malty and hearty ales, the world of beer offers a variety of flavors and characteristics. As with wine, pairing the right brew with a dish can enhance and complement its flavors. Although cooks often overlook beer when planning their menus, this tongue pleaser is surprisingly versatile and pairs perfectly with a wide range of dishes. In this class, you'll join Garrett Oliver, Brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery and author of the award-winning book The Brewmaster's Table, for an evening of beer exploration. Considered the country's foremost authority on traditional beer, and deemed “the poet laureate of beer" by Mario Batali, Garrett will lead you through an interactive tasting in which you'll learn to identify key beer styles and flavor components. In the kitchen, you'll team up to prepare a few seasonally appropriate dishes, and then sit down to taste and discuss how they pair with an assortment of craft brews. After class, you'll have a new appreciation for the flavor complexities of beer and its special affinity for food.
Students must be at least 21 years of age to enroll in the Brewmaster's Table.
